OPEN BURNING FIRE RESTRICTION

Please be advised that open burn fires are not permitted in the Sagamok Anishnawbek community at this time. This includes all open burning of grass and woodland areas.
Please be advised that campfires are allowed at this time without a fire permit, provided that reasonable fire-safety precautions be taken, including:
· Campfires must be contained in some manner, such as within a steel rim, bricks, stones, or within enclosed units, like a chiminea, fire bowl or burn barrel.
· Campfires must not exceed 60 cm (width, length and height of flames).
· Campfires must be attended, controlled and supervised at all times by a responsible adult (18 years or older) and must be completely extinguished before the campfire is vacated.
· An appropriate extinguishing agent must be present at all times during the campfire and until the campfire is fully and completely extinguished.
· Continuing to observe physical distancing by limiting fires to immediate household families with groups of no more than 5 individuals.

Penalties If you don’t burn safely or you burn material without a permit when one is needed, you can be fined and held responsible for the cost of putting out the fire and for any property damage.

Fire Safety in COVID Times
  • Only light a fire if you know that you can ensure it is
  • continually monitored until it is extinguished.
  • Don’t make a fire if there are high winds (over 15 km/h).
  • Ensure your fire is contained and that it is attended at all times by a responsible adult.
  • Keep your campfire a safe size, not exceeding 60 cm.
  • Continue to observe physical distancing. Fires are for a household’s members to enjoy. Fires are not an invitation to socialize.
