Cannabis and Our Community News Release – March 8, 2019


To provide notice of information and further clarification to our Community members, Council established an Adhoc Working Group on Cannabis in November 2018.  The Adhoc is comprised of existing staff resource. 



The purpose of the Adhoc Working Group on Cannabis is to conduct developmental work on Laws and Strategies, activities and evaluation of policies and procedures to promote and support Sagamok Anishnawbek Governance, among leadership, employees and operations. The committee will engage in a process of open discussions, critical thinking and problem solving to make informed decisions/recommendations in the following key areas:



Laws on Dispensaries

Participate in engagement and strategic planning sessions

Review of AGCO standards

Engage in comprehensive community survey and make recommendations to the proposed law based on knowledge transfer.

Policy and Procedure review

Review departmental policies

Make recommendations for changes to policies 

Assist in policy development in areas where policy does not exist

A&D Strategy

Review the existing strategy and report on status

Make recommendation concerning cannabis legalization

Harm Reduction Strategy

Gather and review any and all Harm Reduction Strategies for inclusion of Cannabis as it pertains to harm reduction

Community Concerns/Engagement

            Schedule regular community conversations on Cannabis and legislation
