2018-2020 Committee Member Recruitment Begins

Sagamok Community Members have until Friday, August 10 to submit a letter of interest


Posts seeking interested community members for the 2018-2020 Committees appeared July 19, 2018. 

11 Committees are seeking members who are at least 18 years of age and have relevant experience and familiarity with the business of the committees.  One committee is new!  There is now a Planning & Infrastructure Committee.  

Youth & Elders are being sought for committee membership and are highly encouraged to apply!  



2018 – 2020 Committee Member Recruitment

Chief and Council creates committees for specific and/or time limited purposes and according to specified terms of reference. 

The purpose of the Committees is to ensure that they will help Council on various issues by preparing policy alternatives and implications for council deliberation.  Committees do not speak or act for Council, nor have authority over staff.  Committees have clear written mandates indicated purpose and the limitations of their role and responsibilities in the Terms of Reference. 

The following Committees are seeking community members to participate and provide input.  Please see additional requirements below:

1.  Community Wellness Steering Committee

2.  Economic Development Committee

3.  Education Committee

4.  Early Childhood Development Parent Committee  *Must have children between 0-12 years

5.  Elders Council

6.  G’Daa Kiim-Non Committee

7.  Governance Committee

8.  Housing Committee

9.  Justice Committee

10.  Membership Authority (requires election) Chief and Council creates committees for specific and/or time limited purposes according to specific terms of reference.

The following is a list of the requirements of potential committee members of Sagamok Anishnawbek. 

1.  Must be able to work in a group setting as part of a team. 

2.  Have general knowledge of committee issues. 

3.  Must have relevant background experience in the related department the committee is representing. 

4.  Must be familiar with the policies within the respective department. 

5.  Is a registered member of the Sagamok Anishnawbek. 

6.  Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the appointment. 

7.  Youth representatives and Elder representatives are being sought for the committees and are encouraged to apply. 

8.  The term of office for a member appointed to any committee shall be as set out by Chief and Council.  Any Committee member who chooses to leave a committee shall give written notice to Chief and Council as soon as possible. 

9.  If required, a CPIC must be provided prior to being selected for a committee.
