Please be advised that the Ontario government announced a province-wide Fire Restriction to ensure public safety and well-being during the evolving COVID-19 situation.

Ontario’s Fire Restriction is effective April 3, 2020 at 12:01 am.

Be advised that this Ontario-wide Fire Restriction applies to the Sagamok Anishnawbek community and will be strictly enforced

By law, you cannot have an outdoor fire in a Restricted Fire Zone. This includes all burning, including grass, debris and campfires, even when using an outdoor fire grate, fire place or fire pit.

This Fire Restriction will be in effect until further notice.

This is a proactive action to reduce the number of preventable human-caused fires and reduce the risk of wildfires impacting the  Sagamok community at a time when our front line service personnel are preparing for or engaging in a response to the COVID-19 situation in our community.

Penalties      Once a Fire Restriction is declared, it is illegal to set a fire for any purpose within the affected area with penalties for failure to comply ranging from a fine up to $25,000, 3 months in jail and financial responsibility for any costs incurred in fighting a forest fire.                     Forest Fires Prevention Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. F.24

Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
