2012 Little Native Hockey League

Sagamok Anishnawbek is proud to host the 2012 Little Native Hockey League tournament in Sudbury!  As always, the tournament is scheduled during the March break, beginning March 11, 2012 until March 15, 2012.

The Little NHL Planning Committee is hard at work planning a successful tournament. If you are interested in the LNHL Tournament and would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact Mike Abitong or Julie Toulouse at 705-865-2421.

This renowned sporting event began with the first tournament in 1971 in Little Current and was hosted by the Whitefish River, Sucker Creek and West Bay First Nations. From humble beginnings, the Little Native Hockey League Tournament has grown from 17 teams to over 100 teams. Participants both male and female 3-18 years of age will be playing for top honors in seven (7) of the City of Greater Sudbury’s arenas from March 12th through the 15th.

There are two committees planning the LNHL, one is called the Planning Committee and the second committee is called the Recreation Committee.

The Planning Committee is hard at work, ensuring the LNHL Tournament will be a successful event. The Hockey Registration packages have been sent to all the communities with an early bird deadline of December 15, 2011. The final registration date is January 31, 2012. So register Early!

Also, a parade is scheduled on first day of the LNHL Tournament; it will begin at 5:00 pm and will start from Tom Davies Square. If you are interested in participating please contact Mike Abitong at 705-865-2421.

This year, instead of having the Banner contest, Sagamok Anishnawbek has decided to do something different. We are all very creative people and we have decided to have a Mascot contest. We would like to see which team or First Nation community can come up with the best Mascot. The Mascot would participate in the parade along with your registered team(s) for the LNHL Tournament. Sagamok Anishnawbek has a mascot which will be revealed soon. This mascot is based on the Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik school team name. Stay tuned!

Calling all Vendors!
Are you interested in participating as a Vendor, please click on the link and download the application. To secure your favorite location, we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

The Recreation Committee will collaborate with the Sagamok Anishnawabek hockey teams and fundraising events. A schedule of ice time is available for the different divisions; click here for the complete schedule. It is the responsibility for the Coaches and Managers to make arrangements to bring their team members out to the practices. Your input is required to make this event a success but also to take pride that you are part of the planning for the LNHL.
