WHY HOST EDUCATION & CAREER PLANNING WORKSHOP SERIES?

We are always trying to identify ways that we can help our students succeed.  One area of concern are the barriers are students face as they transition between levels.  We know that they face a number of challenges and to help them, we've formed the Student Support Network to help support our students as they face challenges on their educational journeys.

Some of the challenges we've heard that faces our students are:

  • Some students find it difficult becoming motivated to finish their grade 12 requirements as they are unsure of what to do after graduation.
  • Some students select their high school courses based on what their friends are taking or what they beleive to be easy credits, rather than based on what they need to transition to post-secondary studies.
  • Some students may be thinking about college or university may unknowingly register in lower academic pathway courses than they need to successfully apply to the post-secondary studies of their choice.  This sometimes lead them to having return to high school for upgrading, creating confusion and putting their post-secondary plans on hold.
  • Some students find that the post-secondary programs they have entered is not what they expected and they drop out which can affect their access to future educational funding.
  • Some students find that there is little to no work in the fields they have graduated.
