January 20 - March 24     Chief & Council 2018 COMMUNITY CHALLENGE    Chief & Council encourage community members to eat healthy and be more active!  The entire family is welcome to join!  Registration ends: January19, 2018.  Extended to January 23, 2018.  Various physical activity programs, cooking demonstrations, monthly good food boxes.  Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Adult Male, Adult Female, Youth and Children.  For more information or to register, contact Laura McMeekin-Clarke, Physical Wellness Worker at (705) 865-2171 ext.318.

Wednesday, February 7, 2018   COMMUNITY FORUM: Resource Allocation for Programs & Services from 5:oo - 9:00pm at the Sagamok Multi-Educational Centre (Dinner at 5pm)

Once Monthly (2nd Friday)   COMMUNITY SOUP KITCHEN from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Sagamok Niigaaniin Works offices located at 575 Sagamok Road.  Clients can come in by 10am to help make soup for the day and homemade buns or scone for lunch.  The Community Soup Kitchen is sponsored by Sagamok Niigaaniin Ontario Works.  For more information, contact Sagamok Niigaaniin Works at (705) 865-1395.

Tuesdays & Thursdays (February 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 & March2)   PLAY GROUP Children's Program from 6-8pm.  Play Group is a place of friendship and fun, engaging children (ages 6-12 years) in various activities, games and more.  To register, please contact Health Bennett, Children's Wellness Worker or Jessica Southwind at (7050 865-2171.

 

 

 

Wednesdays   KIDS in ACTION from 6:30-8:00pm at the Multi-Educational Centre for 15 participants (ages 6-12 years) to enjoy 45 minutes of physical activities plus 45 minutes of arts and crafts.  Activities! Games! Monday, Februrary 12      ELDERS BINGO NIGHT from 6-7:30pm at the Elders Eagle Lodge. This event is for all community elders and presented by the Youth Warriors Youth Council. Friday, February 16  CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION (ages 12-24) from 2-9pm at the Youth Centre. Join us for a fun filled night of games and entertainment. Snacks and drinks provided. For more information, contact Jenna Guignard, Youth Wellness Worker at (705) 865-2171 ext.329.

 

 

 

February 17 - 19   YOUTH CULTURAL CAMP (Ages 16-24) at Ritchie Falls Resort.  10 spots are available so please register early!  Participants will depart Sagamok Naandwedjige-Gamik at 10:00am on Friday, February 17 and return at 2:00pm on Monday, February 19.  Parents are welcome to chaperone.  Cultural teachings will be taught by a community Elder in Camp.  Deadline to register is Tuesday, February 13.  To register or obtain more information, contact Jenna Guignard, Youth Wellness Worker at (705) 865-2171 ext.329. 

 

 

Mondays   YOUTH ADDICTIONS TALKING CIRCLE from 4-6pm at the Youth Centre (512 Cedar Street).  For grades 6, 7 & 8 students.  Transportation provided from Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik to the Youth Centre and then home afterwards.  Participants will enjoy dinner and fun activities while learning in a Circle setting.  This is a safe, culturally based environment facilitated by Community Workers and Traditional Teachers.  Parental Consent is required.  17 spots available.  For more information, please contact Darlene McNaughton, Student Mental Health Worker at (705) 865-2387 or Jenna Guignard, Youth Wellness Worker at (705) 865-2171 ext.329.

Tuesdays & Thursday Mornings        Chair Yoga from 11:15am - 12:00pm at the Elders' Eagle Lodge (West Wing).  Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support.  Classes begin February 6 and run through until March 29.  Please dress comfortably, bring a reusable water bottle and a positive attitude.  If you require transportation or want to register, please contact Laura McMeekin-Clarke, Physical Wellness Worker at (705) 865-2171 ext.318 or emailing physicalwellnessworker@sagamok.ca 
 
 
 

First Friday of Month        Bowling Club (55+)  from 10:30am-12:00pm at Venture Lanes Bowling Alley in Espanola [52 Mead Boulevard (705) 869-2450  venturelanebowling@gmail.com] with Lunch from 12:15pm-1:45pm [location determined by group].  This program is for individuals 55+ or self-referred individuals seeking opportunities for low-impact physical activity and or more socialization.  Bowling fees are covered by Sagamok Naandwedjige-Gamik. Saturday, February 10    IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR: Healthy Relationship from 12pm - 2pm at the New Community Hall.  Lunch is provided.  Door Prizes.  Come and sit for an afternoon of learning how to maintain having a positive and healthy relationship with others.  Identifying the positive roles we share with each other within our social circles shape how we see ourselves and how we interact with other members in our community.  There will be a lunch provided and activities will follow.  Sign up with CWD Receptionist, Doreen Abitong by calling (705) 865-2171.

The DAD'S PROGRAM is for all those men in the Sagamok community who fill the role of "Dad" in the lives of one of our new generations - fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other guardians.  The Dad's Program meets every second Wednesday between 6-8pm.  The group is inclusive of all Dads and determines activities together as a group.  The Dad's program provides Dads with an opportunity to come together as parents is a supportive environment to share stories, skills, advice and engaging them as parents in a social setting.  For more information or to request transportation, contact Dennis Trudeau, Parent-Infant Advisor at the Community Wellness Department at (705) 865-2171 ext.324 between the hours of 9am-4:30pm.  The Dad's Program is a program of Sagamok Naandwejige-Gamik. 

 

 

The MOM's PROGRAM The Mom's Program is for all mothers in the Sagamok community who fill the role of "Mom" in the lives of one of our new generations - mothers, step-mothers, grandfathers, uncles and other guardians. 

The Mom's Program is currently in a "Confidence Camp" program cycle and meets every Monday between 7:00-8:30pm, engaging participants with healthy eating cooking classes, custom physical fitness plans, mental health and wellness, cultural wellness, beauty boot camp (make up application and skin care workshops) and much more!  Transportation is available for this event by request.  For more information or to request transportation, contact Dennis Trudeau, Parent-Infant Advisor at the Community Wellness Department at (705) 865-2171 ext.324between the hours of 9am-4:30pm.  The Dad's Program is a program of Sagamok Naandwejige-Gamik.
